While researching topics I would like to cover on this website, I came across a very interesting question which I think warrants a semi-in-depth and well-researched question, which is;
How old do you have to be to buy sex toys online?
If you’re under the age of 18 (or whatever the age of consent is in your country – you can see a full list by country on this page here) you may be interested purchasing your very first sex toy but you’re not quite sure what to expect, how to go about it and whether it’s actually legal to do.
While researching this topic, I have come across various threads and truth be told; many people have different answers on this and many different opinions.
Before I go ahead and tell you how you can buy sex toys online (even if you are not “of age”), let’s first look at some of the options that you may have that would not require you to buy one yourself (and thus avoiding this problem altogether).
The first option is to…
Ask An Adult To Buy it For You
Yeah, that’s is one cringy and awkward conversion to have unless you are open up your “sexual appetite” (for lack of better words) with your parents or your guardian.
While as I said; this can be incredibly awkward, it is the best option so if you can muster up the courage to ask for it (and face the consequences, whatever they may be), go ahead and do so and stop reading this article.
If you’re not ready to do so just yet, then there’s another option for you which is:
Don’t Buy One (Just Use Something Else)
Yeah, you don’t actually need to buy one.
I won’t go into much details of how-to and what-to here, but you can most definitely supplement a sex toy by using other similarly shaped things
While I hope the above picture gets your mind thinking right, if your imagination is stuck (or you’re just curious), here’s a list of things you can use as a sex toy.
Now that we’ve got that over with, let’s revisit our first questions and the scope of this article here and figure out;
How Old Do You Have To Be To Buy Sex Toys Online?
Online sex stores – which you can see a best-of list here – tend to not sell to people who are under 18-years old.
While I doubt they have any moral judgement on it, I am pretty sure they are required by law to not sell to “minors”.
Now, the issue here though is not the actual sex store you are buying from, but rather how you are going to pay them.
Unless you have your own bank account and a credit/debit card linked to it, you are really out of luck here. In case you’re thinking that you can use somebody else’s credit card to purchase such an item without their permission;
May I also remind you that that is considered fraud and also; it won’t be long until they found out somebody has been buying using their card, so its best to avoid it.
As I said, I’m not exactly sure the store actually cares who buys their products, but the thing stopping you from buying a sex toy under the “legal age” would actually the banking system.
Again, if you are dead set on getting your hands on one, your best option is to tell a parent/guardian to get it for you, in which case you won’t have any issues at all using their credit card and you can expect to get your hands on one pretty soon.
So, to answer your question – unless you figure out a way to get around the banking/payment issue to these stores, the “legal” way to buy sex toys online would be to wait till you are 18 years or older.
Of course, another option would be to visit a brick and mortar sex toy in your area and get one from there, although chances are you won’t even be allowed in there too. In that case; your best bet is to still talk to an adult about getting you one.
(If you don’t want to approach a parent with this, you may ask a friend above the legal age who you have a more open relationship with to get it for you)
A quick side-trip: If you can get your hands on some crypto-currencies, then that could be a way to work around the banking issue, however;
If we are talking about buying sex toys online, then you’d also have to deal with awaiting the package to arrive at your home and risk being found out when your parent/guardian sees your package and is curious about what is in it.
To Sum It All Up:
The best way to go about purchasing a sex toy online would be to wait until you are of legal age. If you are not patient enough to wait that long, then you can look into some of the DIY home-sex toys mentioned above and use those.
You may also try and get your hands on some cryptos and use those as a way to work around the banking restrictions if you can do that; here’s a list of online sex stores that do accept cryptocurrencies.
While you’re here, I’d also suggest you take a look at some of the sex toy reviews we’ve been publishing these past few days.
As a young adult getting into your sexuality and starting to experiment with sex toys; I highly suggest you go into this well educated and knowing exactly what is what – using the video above can help you understand what would be the right step forward with this.
One sex toy which has been a long-standing favourite here at SexToyStarterPack is the Lovense Lush.
I’ll leave you to it and good luck.
