As a webcam model, your goal is to attract more viewers to your page and bring a returning audience together to turn your profession into a profitable career.
However, achieving this can sometimes be a real challenge as opposed to what most people assume when they join this industry.
Being a cam-girl is more than just performing in front of an audience; it involves profiting off of your online persona and skills, which can earn you a solid income if you do things right.
Therefore, in this article, I will give you all the tips a beginner should know about how to make money as a webcam model.
And without any further ado, let’s get started with the very first thing you need to consider doing:
How To Make Money As A Webcam Model (In 8 Simple Steps)
- Pick Your Niche
- Build a Brand: Create Your Identity
- Find Several Camming Websites
- Carefully Review Their Policies
- Build Your Audience
- Develop A Relationship With Your Audience
- Update Your Profile/Bio
- Create Content On Other Platforms
Pick Your Niche
There are a ton of different camming websites that cater to many different interests.
This is why picking a niche is incredibly useful, as you will get to do something you enjoy in front of an audience with the same interest. This audience is your demographic.
The cool thing about this industry is that there are lots of avenues to explore. From sitting down and sharing a meal with your community to ASMR, here are some ideas and niche topics to explore:
- Eating in Front of the Camera
- Telling erotic stories
- Demonstrating how-tos and DIY
- Offering good conversation and company
- Testing a variety of products (sex toys, makeup, utensils, etc.)
- Demonstrating unique talents
- Cosplay
- Performing Live ASMR Audio
- Sexual domination
- Pole dancing and stripping
Build a Brand: Create Your Identity
Anonymity is key and helps to dissolve some of the barriers that lead to performance anxiety.
Having an extra special persona on the side can give you the confidence you need to be your best self. Pick an identity and name that truly resonates with you and your niche.
For example, your online name and identity may be how you want your viewers/clients to call you. If you are into femdom/findom, you may call yourself Goddess (your name/alias) or whatever else you decide.
There is a lot to be considered when choosing your name and creating your brand, so take your time when doing these two things.
Find Several Camming Websites
There are so many camming sites out there, and it would be a waste of an opportunity to stick to one no matter how good it works for you.
Even if you have a favorite one, still make sure to visit several other sites and get viewers from there to join you on your favorite platform if that’s what you want.
Or you can use different camming sites to cater to different niches. For example, if you perform as dominant on one website, you can be a sub and take orders from your viewers on another.
It’s good to switch things up a little bit, and the opportunities are truly endless, so make sure you are active on at least 3-4 different sites.
Here are some of my favorite cam sites:
Carefully Review Their Policies
Once you’ve made a list of the websites you want to check out, it is now time to carefully review their policies and what they have to offer for you as a model.
Here are the three most important things to pay attention to:
Review the token or tipping system
Before deciding on a site, take a look at how its tipping system works.
Cam sites usually work on a token system, where viewers buy tokens and then spend them on live webcam videos like yours.
However, typically these systems aren’t 1-to-1 with any currency, meaning 1 token doesn’t equal $1 or whatever currency you’re using.
It’s a good idea to figure out the tipping system to know what you’re making when the tokens roll in. This shouldn’t be too difficult as most cam sites have their systems explained on their website; you just need to read it and work it out.
Review their payment times/percentage/methods
It’s important not only to understand what the site or service expects but also how often they pay and what they pay for.
Not all sites give out payments at the same time. Some sites pay weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, etc., so you want to make sure you know what to expect in terms of payment.
Besides that, you also need to consider their cut of the deal as most platforms will take anywhere from 20% to 40% commission from your earnings.
This is why you should look for websites that suit you best.
And lastly, you need to check about the payment methods. It is advisable to avoid using PayPal for payments as they don’t support anything that has to do with adult content, and you could potentially lose your account.
Ask about new model benefits
Not every website does this; however, some cam sites boost new models to the top of the page for a limited time to help them get more viewers as they are starting.
Sometimes they list these perks on their FAQs page; however, they don’t always do that, so you can just send them a simple email and ask whether they can help you out with gaining viewers as soon as you sign up for their platform by placing you at the top of the page for a limited time.
Build Your Audience
The easiest way to build your audience is by building social media presence.
Twitter and Instagram are social media platforms where you can interact with potential clients, promote your services, engage with other creators, see what they are up to and get inspired with new and creative ideas, talk to a bunch of people, get shoutouts, get in touch with companies for sponsorships, etc.
It’s good to have a solid social media presence because it not only proves that you are legit but also opens a ton of opportunities for you to grow and reach new highs with your webcam modeling business.
Develop relationships with your audience
Developing relationships with your audience is extremely important as, essentially, these are the people that will be coming back to your shows and pay money to see you.
So, don’t be too proud or shy to interact with your audience on social media, engage in a conversation with them, reply to their messages, as this will help you drive more traffic to the platform where you are performing.
By talking to people, you will be able to send them a link and invite them to your room to see more of you. Here are a few ]simple ways that can help you develop relationships with your audience.
Pay attention to your audience’s requests to increase tips
While you’re online, your viewers will probably make requests of you. Some of these may be sexual, and some are probably going to be more playful.
For instance, some people may want you to do something as simple as to sing a song, dance, or perform a simple act with your hands or feet.
These are all things viewers will be more than happy to tip you for, so paying attention to your audience’s needs will most definitely earn you more money.
Do private and exclusive shows
Private and exclusive shows are always built-in any cam site, so you won’t have to go out of your way to host a private show for your viewers.
Private shows are usually charged at a fixed rate per minute to the viewer. This means that you can set any price you want, and it’s up to the viewer whether they want to pay it or not.
Private shows can be a lucrative opportunity, and you could be earning quite a lot of money from hosting these types of shows.
Besides that, since this is a one-on-one show, you may even feel more comfortable doing these. Remember that you are the star of the show, and you need to provide your viewers with value so that you keep them coming back.
For instance, you might show a little more skin to the ones you take to private shows or have a themed show just for them.
However, this isn’t always the case, and many people that are willing to pay for one-on-one time with you want to know more than just seeing skin.
Some people want to talk; others want to listen to you talk about different stuff, so you need to read the room and set the mood for the viewer to enjoy themselves and for you to be comfortable.
Be kind no matter what
Running into weirdoes and flat-out assholes isn’t an uncommon thing on the internet as it is in real life. However, as a professional, you need to make sure you are nice and kind no matter what.
Think of it as working retail, and there’s a Karen that is ready to cause drama and be rude for the smallest things; however, you need to be professional and handle her well so that not only she realizes what she did was wrong, but the people that are watching are also on your side.
If a viewer is rude to you, whether in a public or private room, you need to politely tell them off and not engage in pointless arguments or unpleasant exchanges.
This will only bore other viewers out and probably drive them away from you. After all, the petty drama is certainly not something they came to your room for.
Establish your boundaries
Establishing your boundaries is one way to develop a relationship with your audience. However, always make sure to be polite about declining an offer you are not comfortable with.
People who like you and regularly come back to your chatroom to see you and talk to you are surely not people who want to offend you by asking you to do something you don’t like.
This is why most of your viewers will probably be happy to know your boundaries and be aware of the things you do and things you are not willing to do.
Update Your Profile/Bio
Having an updated and descriptive bio or profile is one of the most important things to do.
Many viewers/clients are looking for particular things; therefore, you want to make it as clear as possible what you are about, the services you offer, the kind of shows and performances you host, and what a client can expect from you in a private room.
Don’t make it tacky, provocative, and tasteless, but rather professional and engaging.
For example, avoid writing stuff like “I will fulfill all your naughty desires,” “We will have a lot of fun together,” “I have a lot to offer,” etc., rather opt for explaining exactly what you have to offer and what the client can expect from you in a short but interesting way.
Besides that, always use descriptions that will help you get to the top of search results.
Use words or hashtags like “flirting,” “ASMR,” “mukbang, “nude mukbang,” “music,” etc., that can describe what you are on about and get you an audience that will pay to see you do these things.
Create Content On Other Platforms
Camming may be a good stream of income for you, but besides that, you should also consider creating content on other platforms such as:
- OnlyFans,
- ManyVids,
- SlipperyBean,
- etc…
as these are a little more practical.
Meaning, unlike with camming, you won’t have to get in on camera every day to earn your money.
All you have to do is create and edit a video, upload it to one of these sites, promote it on your social media, and let it earn money even while you sleep.
I have written articles that explain how to earn money on all of the mentioned platforms, so make sure to click the links for more thorough information.
Consider accepting custom requests
Custom content is a great opportunity for you to charge more money than usual to create content requested by individuals.
Since this will be an exclusive piece that’s only available to the person who requests it, you can really go crazy with the price and charge much more than you usually do for a video or a photo gallery that’s available for anyone to buy.
